As we enter February many people have taken to decluttering their houses of objects that no longer remain appealing to them. This mass decluttering of rooms has been inspired by Netflix’s new show Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. Mrs Kondo’s method of interior design involves the trademark registered Konmari method which involves imaging your ideal life and determining if that the object in your life “Sparks Joy”.
One of the most important things that the Konmari interior design method is about is having respect for the home. In how that having a well-designed home is important for not only your overall state of mind but helps an individual achieve a healthier lifestyle.
Psychologist have proven the effect of a well-organised environment can have not only health benefits but is essential to perform for daily life. As if a person does their office work on their bed during the day it will then become very difficult for that person to be able to sleep on their bed at night. This is because then the brain comes to associate the bed with work. Thus the importance of knowing the room certain furniture goes in, and when it should be used is essential in people’s daily lives.
People thanks to Mrs Kondo’s show have begining to realise this for the first time as many have started to remove items that have not been customised for their houses.
Removing objects that don’t “spark joy” can also lead to even finding long lost “joy” as one Perth family found. The Gorce-Masham family discovered a long-lost biscuit tin that belonged to a great grandmother that they thought they had lost.
